First: 5-stars to Dion Graham the narrator! Thanks for bringing the characters to life.
Before reading this review, realize that there are potential Spoilers!
I struggled with this book. I liked it, and could not put it down. But not for MY typical reasons.
I enjoyed starting a story anchored by an everyday convenience knowing it will take me on a journey of "what if."
I dislike the main character, Mae who is so shallow and easily influenced.
<spoiler>I hated that everyone who ever cared about Mae is dragged through her wake of misery as she believes "if only you would listen to me you understand how right I am. Don't worry. I'll help you realize that"</spoiler>
I loved yelling at her "what? Why would you… What? NO you didn't."
I like Mercer the ex-boyfriend who knows his own mind.
I like that the author shows that a frenetic group-think can and will take over reason and common sense.
I dislike the shallow world's blind dependence on social media for identity.
I love that the story shows it -- smacks us in the face with it.
I like that the story shows how easy it is to fall into that dependency.
Most of all, I love that the story reminds me to love and appreciate my own mind, heart and soul.
I listened to and recommend the audiobook version of "The Circle" by Dave Eggers.
