It told a story. It made me laugh. I nodded my head and was convinced, I can do that too.
Patrick Lencioni weaves a fable that uses a local hole-in-the-wall pizzaria to demonstrated that anyone can be inspired to be great with the right incentive. How do you help someone take a job that is miserable and turn it around – even love their job? You engage with them.
The truth about a miserable job – it’s not usually about the job. It is about the environment, the leadership and a feeling of accomplishment and making a difference.

As a talent developer and a leader I study ways to inspire and engage those on my team, those who wish to learn and develop their skills or simply want to have a positive impact on their customers.
When my leadership recommended the book “The Truth About Employee Engagement” I found that the book was originally published under the title “The Three Signs of a Miserable Job.”
I read the online reviews. I was skeptical. But, five minutes in -- I was hooked. I liked the characters. I like the story. I see myself in it.
I highly recommend this simple introduction to employee engagement. Read it. Apply the tips. See the results in the increased productivity of your employees and your business.
