While The Third Option is the second Mitch Rapp book that was published by Vince Flynn, it was the fourth book in the series when put in chronological order as to events in the story. Reviewers have stated that the early Mitch Rapp books were more exciting and action packed than his later books. The reviewers state further that the later Rapp books were more focused on intrigue and less go-go-go action. I have never felt that way. I have always thought all of the Rapp books were very fast paced. The Third Option is very fast paced and is the style of writing that had gotten me hooked on the exploits of Mitch Rapp.
In The Third Option, Rapp is on a mission to assassinate a powerful arms dealer who has book selling weapons to Saddam Hussein and other US enemies. of the United States. After completing his mission, he is betrayed by people he had trusted.
When the story about the Mission and killing of the weapons dealer comes to light, Congressional enemies of the CIA, try to use the events surrounding the assassination as a tool to destroy the CIA.
As with all books involving intrigue, I do not want to give away any of the plot and/or the story line. I want you, the reader to enjoy the whirlwind trip Vince Flynn takes you on as you read The Third Option.
As a note to the reader, there is a dated quality to the book. It was published in 2000 and does involve Mitch Rapp dealing with the Middle-East leaders who are no longer in power or even alive. But if you overlook that issue, The Third Option is an excellent read. I highly recommend setting aside a day or so and join in the struggle to fight terrorists.
