Memorial Day, a Mitch Rapp novel by Vince Flynn.

As with all of Vince Flynn’s, Mitch Rapp novels, Memorial Day focuses on United States security organizations stopping a terrorist attack planned to take place on US soil. The action is nearly non-stop, pausing long enough to give some background material and to let the reader catch their breath. But what makes Memorial Day interesting, is that in this book we get an inside look at how the various alphabet security organizations actually do their work. We see how they get the information that lets them proceed from a scrap of paper found in a basement in Afghanistan, to the actual take down of the terrorist group.

Many times, as I was reading Memorial Day, I paused and wondered how Flynn got this information about the inner-workings of the CIA, FBI, NSA and other agencies. How many actual agents did he interview to get such detail? What kinds of sources did he have? How deep inside the organizations did his sources go? As Flynn was describing how Mitch Rapp did his heroics, it is interesting how much detail he actually knew.

Again, for the sake of not spoiling the impact for a reader by revealing any details about the story, I will not go into any aspects of the story or the plot. I will just state that if you are a fan of Mitch Rapp, you will enjoy reading Memorial Day. It is an engrossing and an exciting read.

And, as happens every time I get near the conclusion of a Flynn novel, I begin to consider who will play the role of Mitch Rapp in the movies. I have my list of stars who fit the image. I am still waiting for the movie.
