While not as hard hitting and as compact as Michael Crichton’s The Andromeda Strain or Congo, I consider Sphere to one of Crichton’s most exciting novels. It is the one book which I, literally, could not put down. I began reading in the morning and before I realized it, it was late afternoon and I had finished it -- in one sitting.

Without giving away spoiler details, here are some of the highlights.
A massive spherical shaped vessel was discovered resting on the ocean floor in the middle of the South Pacific. A group of American scientists are brought in the analyze the vessel and its strange findings. What they discover defies their imaginations and mocks their attempts at logical explanation. It is a spaceship of phenomenal dimensions, apparently, undamaged by its fall from the sky. And, most startling, it appears to be at least three hundred years old.
The excitement really gets cranked up when the scientists open the craft and enter it. This is where I wish I could give details, because it is so exciting. But, to spoil a reader finding out the truth as they read, it would be wrong. With the spoiler factor in play, I’m not going to write any more, other than to say it is an exciting read.
