Freddie Downs’ best of Rock & Roll and Television

 

During the mid to late 20th century, and into the 21st century, Rock & Roll and Television have probably been the two most important cultural phenomena in the world.

 

These two icons of popular culture have always fascinated Freddie Downs. His fascination led to him authoring two books on those subjects. Both of those books are available on this website.

​

• One of his books - Shakeouts of Rock & Roll, is a detailed history of Rock & Roll from the beginnings in the late 1940s until now.

• Another of his books, Memories: A TV Journey - gives an in-depth look into the evolution of television. The book begins with the early days of a black and white test pattern and goes on up to the multi-media platform that television has become today.

 

After finishing these books, Freddie followed up each of the books, Shakeouts of Rock & Roll and Memories: A TV Journey, with a list of his picks for The Best Of… for each of the topics.

 

For his Rock and Roll The Best of…, Freddie gives his choice for of the 200 best songs and his choice of the 10 best singers and/or groups of the Rock & Roll era.

 

For his Television The Best of…, he gives his choice of the ten best television series and then his choice of the 10 best television episodes of all time.
